The 'Human Chain handshake' was an event I took part in yesterday.
In an attempt to start negotiations between Tibet + the Chinese Govt, the Dalai Lama stood in an office in Marble arch, London, and then 2,000 people stood in a line, each receiving the handshake and then passing it on.
Eventually the handshake ended up at the Chinese Embassy in Mayfair, where there was a recipient waiting for it.
Alongside the handshake walked a pair of young Tibetan assistants from the Dalai Lama, who thanked people as they walked, and delivered a letter/petition to the Embassy at the end.
It was a fantastic success. As the handshake progressed a ripple of positive vibes went through the streets with it, and massive crowds gathered to see it progress.
At the end spokespeople from the organisers (Avaaz.org) spoke from the top of a bus and there was an almighty cheer.
I was one of the 2,000 people who passed along the handshake, and then I documented the handshake as it progressed through London.
